I Saw Us (a poem)
Updated: Aug 15, 2019
I sat on my pillow in the corner of my bed.
I looked beyond my bed
Beyond my window
Beyond the confines of reality
And I saw the beach
I saw the sunset
I saw the life I want
I saw the kids
Happy
Brown and beautiful like you
I saw our home
In our kids’ eyes
I saw it
I saw us
My eyes had never been so opened
Until I closed them
Allowing the salt from the ocean before me to flood my eyes
Like home and reality melding for a moment
It’s like home found me
I saw it
I saw us
