SPRINT DREAMS
God Made Me out of Black Eyed Peas (a poem)
God made me out of black eyed peas and calaloo
I am a tart fruit that hangs from a tree rooted from Africa
On one side of me hangs Christmas ornaments from a religion given to me
On the other hangs my ancestors and a bloodline taken and erased by the same people who gave me the ornaments
I am the ocean waves mixing catfish and cod fish and sand pressed by black feet
I am drums both steel and cow hide covered
God made me out of soup chilled by snow only to be reheated by the sun
God made me out of charm and strength
I was born out of island mangos and southern peaches
I am a delightful buffet of all things that make this world beautiful
